Schulbegleitung (school support worker)

Individual support for a child during the school day. According to the 2021 S3 guideline it should be goal-related, time-limited and aimed at greater independence. Terms differ by region.

Also called
school assistance, integration assistant, inclusion assistant

According to the 2021 S3 guideline, school support workers should be used individually and to reach clearly defined goals over a limited period. The need should be reviewed regularly and reduced over time; the child’s independence should always be promoted. School support workers should be trained in dealing with autism. [1, Empf. 109]

Legally, the guidance and support needed at school because of a disability can be provided jointly to several people entitled to it, as far as this is reasonable. [2]

Context: The guideline expired on 23 March 2026. The name of the service differs by federal state and provider; who is responsible depends on the individual case.
