Frequently asked questions
What does a school assistant do, and what not?
A school assistant (Schulbegleitung) is meant to make participation in lessons and school life possible. The 2021 guideline recommended deploying it individually, for clearly defined goals and for a limited time, reviewing the need regularly and promoting the child's independence. According to a municipal guide, the tasks include, for example, orientation in everyday school life and communication aids; they do not include, among other things, teaching itself and primarily relieving teachers.
