Frequently asked questions

What helps with sensory overload?

For coping, the 2021 guideline named, among other things, avoiding strong sensory stimuli such as noise, smell and light, as well as structure and predictability. At school and work, ear protection, a low-stimulus extra room and breaks were named. Caution applies to "toughening up": a self-advocacy association pointed out that exposure sometimes only leads to an exhausting habituation to endurance.
