Section 35a SGB VIII

Rule on integration assistance for children and adolescents with a mental disability or an impending mental disability. The youth welfare office (Jugendamt) is responsible.

Also called
mental disability, youth welfare

Section 35a of the Eighth Book of the Social Code (SGB VIII) regulates integration assistance for children and adolescents with a mental disability (seelische Behinderung) or an impending mental disability. They are entitled to integration assistance if their mental health deviates, with high probability for longer than six months, from the condition typical for their age and their participation in life in society is therefore impaired or such an impairment is to be expected. [1] The provider of public youth welfare, that is, the youth welfare office, is responsible. For this, the youth welfare office needs the opinion of a professional. [1]

Whether and how this applies to a child with autism is decided in the individual case.
