I support people with autism in school or work

Do you support a child, an adolescent or an adult on the spectrum? Orientation on school, training, university and work.

Where do I stand?

As a parent, relative, school support worker or close person, you support a person with autism in school, training, university or work. This page shows where you can find background knowledge and rights. It does not replace advice in an individual case. School law is state law; information applies only to the federal state named.

Typical questions

First steps

  1. Clarify together with the person what helps. Their wishes and needs are decisive.
  2. Know the rights. The article on reasonable adjustments shows what the example of Bavaria looks like. For other federal states, ask the school or the school supervisory authority about the rules that apply there.
  3. Clarify school support. According to the 2021 S3 guideline, it should be individual, goal-related and time-limited and promote independence. [1, Rec. 109]
  4. Use vocational support. The Federal Employment Agency’s advice, the integration offices (BIH) and the EUTB (all in German).
  5. Prepare applications. An information sheet on deadlines and a sample letter for an objection (in German).
